A specialist in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology (Adult & Paediatric), who has also expertise in Hypermobility and heritable disorders of connective tissue. He trained and specialised at Guys and St Thomas Hospital, London under the watchful eye of Professor Rodney Grahame (a pioneer of Hypermobility and heritable disorders of connective tissue diseases spectrum); and has worked and collaborated with him for over 30 years; and the Children's Hospital, Tufts Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was appointed Prof of Rheumatology at the University Cape Town Medical School in 1996. He is currently Consultant in Rheumatology (Adult & Paediatric) at St Barts & The Royal London Hospital and Medical & Dental School, London, UK and Prof of Medicine, Catholic University Zimbabwe. He has conducted a number of pioneering basic and clinical research projects in the fields of internal medicine and rheumatology some of which led to the development of successful biological treatments for rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune inflammatory diseases. He has published over 100 papers in peer review medical journals over 4 medical books. He is a leading international expert on immunotherapy, neuroendcrine immunology and the role of corticosteroids in inflammatory diseases. He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, British Society of Rheumatology, African League Against Rheumatism, and a past President of The Royal Society of Medicine, London, UK (Ethnic minority health section). He has been involved in setting up pioneering primary healthcare systems in southern Africa for effective healthcare delivery; is Chairman of Board of Trustees of Arthritis Care Africa Foundation. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the European Medical Journal Rheumatology and also seats on the Editorial Boards of a number of other Medical journals.
